Thungapuram (Kulothunga Chozhapuram)A( siru madurai):In the period of Kulothunga Chozha kings this village is very famous for its festivels. The shape of this street was prised equivelent to madurai, hence it is called as "siru madurai", even it is too small compared to madurai. Since there exists another village in the same name this village is renamed as Thungapuram by the postal department of India. The village holds the head post office of the situating area and its postal index number 621716. This village have a big panchayath around the area.It holds a higher secondary school which was established in 1930 as a primary school. A vinava temple called as Iyyannar yealds a good name to the village. In the period of kulothunga chola made two important temples, the first one lard siva "sokkanathar" temple. anoter one lard perumal temple. These two temples are very old arround 1000 years ago. In this village one festivel is more famuse thats Iyyannar "thiru ther". The great Ayyannar,Sembalaiyappar,Karuppsamy temples are very important place of this village.
