industrial area, coal mine

This is one of the largest coal fields in the DPRK, similar to the June 13 Coal Field in Undok County, North Hamgyong, or the Komdok Mine in South Hamgyong. Coal is extracted from the plains of Mundok County, a suburban area southwest of Anju, a large city in South Phyongan Province. The coal field has an estimated .9 billion tons of brown coal embedded both in the ground and under the ocean and bodies of water. Brown coal in the DPRK is widely used for its gases which are then used in factories.
