This is the home where Richard & Karen Carpenter of the musical group The Carpenters lived along with their parents for most of their youth after moving from the East Coast to Downey. As they got older and found fame, they moved out to their own homes and only their parents remained in the house. This is the house where Karen Carpenter suffered a heart attack in February 1983 and died. The house was sold by Richard Carpenter in the late 90's after his parents passed away and is now privately owned by a Downey family. The sprawling house features beautiful pools and gardens and is preserved by the current owners in a state very similar to when the Carpenters lived there. Many historical items relating to Richard and Karen are still in the home, most famously a piano they owned as well as a soundproof rehersal room with vintage audio equipment.

  • Thanks for the current owner of the house preserve it as it was. This house means a lot to the Carpenters fans of all ages, all nationalities.
  • I loved Karen very much but this is crap that the home is made into a shrine. God said worship only me not creatures of the earth or any other objects. I believe Karen is in heaven and I really would like to meet her. since time has no meaning there I could meet everyone at once.
  • Oh, get over yourself.
  • 'God'? There are quite a few of those. To which one do you specifically mean?
  • the Trinity specifically. IE: God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit. Just like you have a body, soul, and spirit.
