Formally owned by Royal Dutch Shell it was sold in 2011 to W&T Offshore
The Yellowhammer plant, opened in 1991. It also processes gas from offshore Chevron Corp. fields. Gas from Mobile Bay and surrounding regions is described as "sour," meaning it contains poisonous hydrogen sulfide. The plant, on a 700-acre parcel, removes that and other contaminants, as well as pulls out liquids such as ethane, propane and butane.
