Location of the brand new $4.5 billion steel mill that opened in summer 2010.
ThyssenKrupp has committed to investing $4.6 billion in world class, state-of-the-art steel and stainless steel processing facilities in the state of Alabama. The facilities are a cooperative effort between two separate ThyssenKrupp segments - Steel and Stainless. Both facilities have been approved by the ThyssenKrupp AG Supervisory Board and are an important part of ThyssenKrupp’s NAFTA growth strategy. ThyssenKrupp Steel USA is the carbon steel portion of the project and represents 70% of the project's overall investment and employment. ThyssenKrupp Steel USA is scheduled to begin operation in early summer of 2010, and when fully operational, employ 1800 Team Members.
ThyssenKrupp Steel USA will manufacture and process carbon steel prodcuts for high-value applications by manufacturers in the United States and throughout the NAFTA region. The plant will serve industries including automotive, construction, pipe and tube in addition to service centers.
The carbon steel facility will include a hot strip mill which will be used primarily to process slabs from ThyssenKrupp Steel's new steel making facility currently under construction in Brazil. It will also feature cold rolling and hot-dip coating capacity for high-quality end products of flat carbon steel. The facility will have an annual capacity of 4.3 million metric tons of end products.
