This is the largest hospital for acute and inpatient medical care in Ch'ŏngjin, and the best hospital in North Hamgyong Province. In the event of an emergency or sudden illness treatment is available to foreign visitors to the DPRK. Chongjin is one of the DPRK's most significant shipping ports and this hospital has hosted injured or ill foreign ship crewmen.
