This is a metallurgical processing facility--a factory producing iron and steel. The Kim Chaek Complex, named after a heroic Korean War KPA General, is the largest steel producer in the DPRK. A pipeline supplies iron ore from the Musan Mine (Musan County, North Hamgyong Province). It has undergone several construction upgrades. Until the early 1970s it was an ironworks.
