The village of kapileswarpur was established by the then king of Orissa Gajapapati Kapilendra dev in 1447 A.D..It initially consisted of four parts, each part devoted to a hundred brahmin families with adequate taxfree land.Other communities were settled in 12 different padas(small habitations)
around 5 km radius of the village.Situaded along the river BHARGAVI and clad with coconut trees everywhere it is surrounded by lush green padddy fields from all sides. The village is 15 kms from PURI and 75 kms from BHUBANESWAR.
Prominent vaishnav poet Jagannath Das was born here in 1490 a.d..who rendered the oriya translation of SRIMADBHAGABATA in oriya which is a translational marvel in terms of simplicity and lucidity.
Presently the village comprises a population of about 12000.Livelihood of the villagers comes mostly from agriculture with a few serviceholders.
Jagannath Das,(1490-1550) who was adressed by Vaishnav Saint Sri Chaitnya as ATIBADA(too great to even imagine),was one of the PANCHASAKHAS (five friends of devotional age during the reign of Gajapati King Prataprudra dev),was a scholar in sanskrit and vedic literatures. He, upon his mother's request rendred the oriya transaltion of BHAGAVAT PURANA in oriya. It not only opened the ways for common people to read it but created a cult so that every oriya household started reading it.Starting ftom religious perspectives oriya bhagavat became an integral part of social cultural and literary aspects of the oriya speaking people in entirety.Due to this reason once the literacy rate in orissa was better than Bengal.Oriya BHAGAVAT today is regarded as standard oriya literature even if it was written 500 years ago.
The village is connected with its nearest town puri by an all weather road.
mostly observed festivals are THE VILLAGE MELANA(the annual gathering of deities generally in april),DURGAPUJA, DOLA PURNIMA etc.
