ghost town
Add category

An uninhabited ghost town. Courtland began as a mining camp in the early 1900's and got a post office in 1909. It was home to about 2000 people at its zenith, but that number quickly dropped when the mines petered out. Only the jail building still stands, along with numerous foundations and crumbling walls. Dozens of mine shafts are still found in the area. Formerly a spur-stop on both the Southern Pacific and the El Paso and South Western railways.
