Owned and operated by Lithuanian Radio & Television Centre (LRTC) with headquarters in Vilnius, Lithuania. Several radio programmes are broadcast from here to audience in Kaunas and adjacent territories.
In 1910, radio station of the Kaunas fortress was built here. After World War I it became property of the Lithuanian government. On June 12, 1926, first regular radio broadcasting in Lithuania started from this station.
After completion of the construction of Sitkūnai radio station (in 1950), multiple jamming transmitters were operating from this site until 1988, jamming foreign radio broadcasts hostile to the Soviet regime such as Voice of America and Radio Free Europe.
