This was an intricate sculpture by Maya Lin dedicated 2000 but was often not working properly. Attempts starting in 2008 to repair it did not succeed. The twelve months of the year are signified by marble strips embedded, almost as inlay, into the surround walking-surface. January is the northern-most strip.

The site still has the pebbles and the marking of the months, but the rest is now covered with a plywood platform. At the unveiling of the work, at least one person, the senior machinist from SLAC, predicted that the drive and clockwork would not remain operational in a wet environment because of the immense weight of the large rotating stone, much to the artist's chagrin.
