Sutter's Mill (Replica)

According to the tourist info:

"The saw mill, a replica based on James Marshall's original 1848 plans, was built in 1967. Flood waters washed away the original mill in the 1850s, so the State constructed the replica on higher ground.

The original Mill Site is located about 100 yards downstream from this replica and is marked by a large stone monument."

California got its name as the Golden State from what happened at Sutter's Mill. The flood of people to California started here, and has never ended.
