Part of the City of Pittsburgh, Ridgemont, formerly Clifton, and always Union township, was originally set out on a grid bordered by the now abandoned Camden Avenue on the east and Independence Rd (now Greentree Rd)on the west. The town reached its peak during the late 1880s. The Clifton Incline once served the neighborhood as well, stretching from Saw mill Run to its terminus along what is now Adolph Street. Today Ridgemont is mostly new residential development that came along with the building of the parkway in the 1960s but some original homes still remain along Junius and Journal Streets.
