Catskill Aqueduct

This building sits on top of the aqueduct, at a point where the aqueduct changes from a pressure tunnel (across the valley to the northwest) to a "covered canal" to the south.
A similar building can be seen on the other side of the valley, where the aqueduct again is a covered canal (in other words, the water is not under pressure - it is just flowing on a very slight downhill grade. Water flows to the southeast, toward New York City. This system carries water from the Ashokan Reservoir west of Kingston, and was built between about 1910 and 1915.
