Mt. Zirkel reaches 12,180 at its summit. It lies within the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness, encompassing about 160,000 acres in the Routt National Forest. The wilderness runs along the Continental Divide for 36 miles. This rugged area is characterized by broad valleys and numerous alpine lakes and cirques. Mt. Zirkel's high country offers a 60-mile loop hike through its alpine terrain.
