Second World War 1939-1945, navy, shipwreck
Formerly a US Navy Large Auxiliary Floating Dry Dock, the AFDB-4 was based out of Manus in Seeadler Harbor repairing and overhauling ships of the US and Royal Navies from 1944 to April 30th, 1945, when she was torpedoed by Japanese bombers flying from Rabaul. Following the war, the US Navy dragged her to this location where she was flooded and abandoned, though it was not struck from the Naval Register until 1989.
