The original East Hall was a wooden barracks building purchased by the school in 1947 from the U.S. Army Keystone Ordnance works in Meadville. Initially serving as classrooms for physics, chemistry and biology, it was also for a time a freshman women's dormitory, and later housed parts of the music department. From 1975 until it was destroyed by fire in 1991, East Hall was used for ceramics classes. The new East Hall was built in 1994-95 and dedicated on April 15, 1995. It houses expanded facilities that include special ceramics and sculpture studios, undergraduate classrooms, a lecture hall, faculty offices, graduate studios, and separate glazing and storage areas.
