Grand Canal Lock No 23
23rd Lock, Grand Canal, Co. Offaly.

Canal lock station on the Grand Canal, c.1790, with pair of timber gates set in stone channel with limestone walls. This lock forms part of a group with the related canal structures in the area. Its simple design has a pleasing symmetry and it retains much original materials and fabric making it a charming addition to the canal.
