The architect, P. P. Shchekotov constructed this building in 1905-1907 for the wealthy merchant and factory owner G. P. Shelaputin. In 1926 engineers G. D. Zinovevevym and A.F. Lolejtom reconstructed the building and added two floors.
The original three-story building also received a façade change in the 1920s, partly this appears to have been to make the building relate better to the other structures on this side of the street.
