Rubik

Albania / Mirdite / Rubik /

Rubik is a town of about 2,000 people and the site of a very historic 13th century catholic church, high on a hill to the east above the town. The church is normally locked except on Sunday. It was damaged during fighting by competing communist and anti-communist Albanian groups during World War II. There is an outstanding fresco of Christ and the Saints on the eastern wall above the altar. This is one of the outstanding sites of the Mirdita region. There is a geologic institute near Rubik that served the many mines in the mountains.
