It is a Village covered by Barbhitha Gaon Panchayat of Ruposi Development Block and Jania L A Constituency in the District of Barpeta, Assam. It was settled by the Muslims immigrated from the districts of Pabna, Maymansingha and a few from Bogra of the undevided province of 'East Bengal and Assam' during 1905 to 1912 A D. Some of them came and settled in the village later up to 1930 A D.also. At fist it was called 'Chaulkhowa' or 'Dulani' and it has been renamed as ' Chandmama' after the name of a Chand Mian Sawdagar who frequently came from Bengal to this area and halted in the village during 1921-27A D.
The Village is surrounded by Garali Paum in the North , Barbhitha in the West, Soilmari in the South and Khajattari in the East. The Head Qtrs. of Barbhitha Gaon Panchayatis established in the village. More over, Barbhitha High School, Chandmama Post Office, Chandmama State Dispensary, Chandmama Community Centre, Sonali Self Helf Group, Chandmama M E Madrasa, and High Madrasa are located in the village. Ala Baksha Sarkar (!892-1924), Taimuddin Haji, Ayan Pramanik, Majitullah Sarkar, Rahim Baksha Dewani, Jahar Akand, HAji Mahiruddin, etc. were the founders of the village. The Leading personalities of the village are Bahaj Uddin Akand (d.!972),Ex G P President, Alhaj Golam Mowla Baksha (B.1919) a Rtd. Gaon Panchayat Secretary, Sahab Uddin Ahmed(b.1926), Rtd. SchoolTeacher), Haji Jahabaksha Bhuyan, Haji Alabaksha (1918-1979) etc. The new genaration of them have become Professors, Doctors, Engineers and School Teachers of various categories. Bakshi Hazrat Ali Ahmed is the first M A (1980) and U G C sponsored College Teacher from this village. data entered by 'Muneer Bakshi' on 13-10-2008.
