Primarily, the Park was jointly promoted by the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and the Government of Andhra Pradesh as a Public Private Partnership initiative. In June, 2010 Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. (NYSE:ARE) through its affiliate, gained controlling stake in the operations and maintenance of Shapoorji Pallonji Biotech Park Private Limited (SPBP) and rebranded it as 'Alexandria Knowledge Park'.

The Knowledge Park has emerged as a focal point for technological innovation, providing sustainable nexus between the industry, research institutions and academia. It has attracted several Global/Indian R&D majors as well as start-up companies to conduct their research activities.
