The site contains 11 megaliths, of which are erect and others fallen, dating back to 3000 B.C. starting from Neolithic period.
The Burzahom archaeological site is located in the Kashmir Valley of the Jammu and Kashmir state. Archaeological excavations have revealed four phases of cultural significance between 3000 BC and 1000 BC. Periods I and II represent the Neolithic era; Period IlI the Megalithic era (of massive stone menhirs and wheel turned red pottery); and Period IV relates to the early Historical Period (Post-megalithic period).
It is believed that a rock wall art with a stone facing inside the site might be the oldest depiction of supernova, an explosion of a star. The rock carving, dating back 5,000 years depicts a sky with two bright objects and a hunting scene.
