Georgetti Residence & Montana Hotel
For over 100 years, this site has been remembered as the long-established property of Issaco Georgetti,
Trail's earliest Italian immigrant. One of the Societá M.S. Cristoforo Colombo's charter members,
Issaco attended the inaugural meeting on April 5, 1905. Not long after his arrival in Trail, Issaco
built his Montana Hotel in 1902, adjacent to the current Colombo Hall. A popular, all-hours watering
hole for thirsty men coming off a long shift at the smelter, Georgetti operated the Montana until 1913,
with partner, Dominic Priori. After many a year in operation and several physical alterations,
the building burned to the ground in 1990. Appropriately constructed here, the Piazza Colombo
and the Colombo Hall flank this historically important site, influential to both our city's Italian community,
and indeed Trail's cultural identity.
