Ağrı, known as Karaköse (Kurdish: Qerekose) prior to 1946, refounded as Karakilise (Ottoman: قره‌کلیسا) around 1860, the ancient armenian town of Bagrevand, is the capital of Ağrı Province at the eastern end of Turkey, near the border with Iran.
The city has a population of 107,839, and the district, 145,359, mostly Kurds, with a minority of Turks.
