One 5" balanced pillar mount gun was mounted here from 1898 to 1917.

Battery Engle was named on March 30, 1903 in honor of Captain Archibald H. Engle, 13th U.S. Infantry, who was killed May 14, 1864 at the battle of Resaca, Georgia.
