Once called Lakshmipura, it was a fortified town. One can still see the remnants of the fort altough much has disappeared on dismatling by locals for the stones. This village is a amninstratively a HOBLI and is in between a town and a village. Has a police outpost too. Is well known for its "Teeru Jaatre" (Car festival) on the day of Shivaratri. There is a small Shiva temple on the banks of the village tank. Other temple is the Shri Ram Temple on the main street. The population has spilled out of the fort long ago but even today, people talk of their house inside or outside the fort although ther is no fort as such.
