These are the so-called Executive Apartments. During the 1970's and 1980's, these were the exclusive residences of senior executives of the KWP and KPA. In the 1990's, under the General Secretary and NDC Chair, Kim Jong il, Party and State Executives were housed in single-family dwellings, one example of which is found in the exclusive subdivision west of these high-rises.
