Mid America Raceway (MAR) was a 1200' dragstrip located near Wentzville, Missouri. The facility also featured a 2.89 mile course which was closed in 1984, quite some time before the dragstrip shut down in 2005. (The long main straight of the road course also served as the drag strip.) The road course was highly regarded, with varying elevation changes, a very long straight (as noted), and ten corners. MAR hosted several SCCA races in the sixties and seventies. The dragstrip also had its run-off area downhill, so there was a strong need for good brakes.

  • This used to be Mid-America Raceway, a great race track that held many SCCA races. Paul Newman raced here back in the '70s in it's heyday.
  • My father was a driver in the race against Paul Newman! WOW~ talk about some super exciting memories! Spent my childhood running with the SCCA. Loads of memories at MAR. Sad to know it's 'run it's course' in time.
  • IMSA raced there as well... Watched Peter Gregg/Hurley Haywood and the Brumos Porche run there. Turn 1 separated the men from the boys
  • I raced there in March, 1973. A blizzard kept us off the track sending us home in sub zero temps.. But the rescheduled SCCA event the following weekend went of perfectly. Spring weather can sure be fickle!
  • The first SCCA National Solo II Championship, conducted by the St. Louis Region, was held at Mid America Raceway in October 1973. I won F Stock by 1.8 seconds at that first National in my 1969 Camaro SS convertible. It was a dual course event and I was one of the two competitors that won on both courses; Chet Hansen in E Prepared was the other. Mid America Raceway was a great venue for that first SCCA National Solo II Championship. Warren Wetzelberg
