A largely disused race track from the late 1960s (the last major race happened in 1981) that still holds amateur races and testing (mostly testing). There was an annual "Willie Nelson's Fourth of July" picnic that was cancelled after 1974 (the second) after incidents related to heavy drug use and a dozen car fires, including the car of Robert Earl Keen. Another large scale music festival, Big State Festival, was held in 2007 but also had a major car fire and was never re-hosted. In 2014, it was announced that a master planned community would replace the moribund racetrack. Despite dismay and disappoint in the amateur racing community both locally and online, the speedway was "on track" to close in summer 2015, though it remained open until it was abruptly closed in fall 2017 when the land was leased to use as storage for waterlogged cars after Harvey, and never reopened before demolition began in 2018.
