Shripada Shrivallabha Devasthan (sripada Srivallabha)

India / Karnataka / Raichur /

Shripada ShriVallabha Devasthan situated at Krishna River island. Shripad ShriVallabha, the first avatar of Shri Dattatreya in kaliyuga stayed here on this island about 700 years ago. This land is possibly known as Kuravpur (Kuravapur) and is mentioned in "Gurucharitra" written by Saraswati Gangadhar about 400 to 500 years ago. Nothing much is known about Shri Shripada ShriVallabha except that he came from Pithapuram in Andhra Pradesh (Son of Ghandikota Aaphalraj sarma and Sumati) and stayed here rest of his life (which was about 30 years before he took Samadhi in Krishna River). There is a cave, where Shri Shripada used to perform pooja and meditation. There is a small Shivalinga (Sivalingam) in this cave. The entire island area is full of big stones and thus it is difficult to have boat ride here during monsoon. On one of the rocks is the place of Vallabhesh brahmin where he was killed by dacoits and was brought back to life by Shri ShripadVallabha (this story is after the end of his avatara). Thus it appears that during that time there must have been a lot of habitation on this island. There is only one village at one end of this island and there is temple at the other end. In between there are lot of farming fields. To reach the temple, one has to travel 2KM from the banks of river Krishna. The other side of the river bank is near village Atkur. To reach Atkur, the nearest Railway station is Raichur (Raichur-Atkur Village distance is 38Km). The buses which go to Atkur village are from Raichur at 7:30AM, 10:30AM, 13:30PM, 16:00PM. Only the 13:30PM bus ends at Atkur, the other buses end at the banks of Krishna from where one can get the boats to cross Krishna river and go to Kuravpur. Trains from Mumbai (CST) to Raichur are Coimbatore, Chennai, Udyan Express and Madras Mail.

Hi, yeah its true, i have been visiting this place since my childhood, its amazing and mezmerizing place on this earth. Previously the place Kuruvapura was called as kurugaddi or kurungadde. The memories of this place cant be erased from one`s mind who has been here even for once.! This place was earlier good to visit at the dathatreya jayanthi that falls somwehere in the month of december depends on the new moon day. Here we have about 3 to 4 days relegious ceremony, which includes, dathatreya pooja, dahi handi etc. there are no other hotels or shops around this temple or any where at this island, one has to carry all the things required there, except that some villagers nearby come here and make a temporary shops who make and sell mirchi bajji, mandakki(kind of rice) or the vaggani and offcourse tea and coffee.! In whole its an amazing expereince to be here.! The Temple provides food for one time here every day during those pooja days.

Very true my friend. This is one of the most wonderful, beautiful places on earth. I cherish the memories when I used to stay here for 9 days or so. Its so serene here.I request everyone to visit Kuravapur atleast once in their life time. "Waking up early in the morning attending the Kaakadaarti at 4 AM. and just after the sunrise " a long bath and swimming session in the most beautiful river. Going to temple after that and having the darshana of the Divine Sripaada vallabha swamy. Having break fast like avalakki masaru (dry Poha and curd on the banks of the river with friends. Again going to the Vata Vriksha at around 11 Am and doing meditation, Japa and Swadhyaaya till 3.30. Again having a hot cup of tea at 3.45 PM and start for the river. A long swimming session in the river and again coming to the temple and attending the aarati and pallakki (Paalaki). Wow what a life.

I assure you visit the place and experience the same.

I visit Shreeshetra Kuravpur every year since 2001 and it is truely a divine & god's place (holy place of living experience of Datt 2nd Avatar "Shreepad Shreevallabh") on the earth. As said by Shri Kelkar Guruji (Kuravpur)that 'one can visit KASHI but it is difficult to visit KURAVPUR in one's lifetime'. At Kuravpur, the main Pujari of Dattratreya Temple are 'Shri Vasudev Pujari, Shri Manjunath, Shri Ravi and Kumar Rajan Pujari' and all these pujari have very good & loving nature. Palkhi function at Kuravpur is great experience and Bhajans during the Palkhi Pradkshina also has speciality. If anyone visits Kuravpur should stay atleast full day & night to know all details about poojas, abhishek, aarati, palkhi etc. of Shri Dattatreya (Shripad Shrivallabh Swami). Kuravpur is great & holy place and to write about Kuravpur's experience will not end. Please do visit Kuravpur once in life. Regards, Tushar Koli (Mumbai), Jai Shreepad Shreevallabh
