house, place with historical importance, 1917_construction
This two-story, five-bedroom home was originally built in 1917 by Allen Wilkinson, owner of the Wilkinson Lumber Company, a successful venture that eventually expanded to 36 locations. The enterprise included a massive three-story woodworking and joinery shop at 907 E. Michigan St. in Indianapolis, now home to the Midland Arts & Antique Market. In the decades following Wilkinson’s death in 1929, the home and carriage house were used as a kindergarten, headquarters for international women’s fraternity Alpha Delta Gamma and offices for marketing and advertising agency the Design Group Inc.
