The Nova Scotia Teachers College established an outdoor education centre here in 1969 on 207 hectares of land they leased from a private owner. The area became a wildlife management area in 1973. The lease is now held by the Truro Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College. The wildlife management area consists of 195 hectares of forested land, 10.5 hectares of water and wetlands, and 1.3 hectares of roads and developed land. Hunting and trapping are prohibited.
