Originally called the Duluth Arena Auditorium, The DECC Arena opened in 1966, the arena portion of the complex houses a 190-by-85 foot hockey rink with seating for upto 5333 people. The rink can be reconfigured to allow concerts, dinners, conventions, and shows. The lobby separates the Arena from Symphony Hall, which seats up to 2,400 people and used to for concerts, symphonies, plays, operas, high school and college graduations, and more.
Pioneer Hall was added in 1976, and contains a hockey rink with smaller seating capability utilizing fold-out bleacher seating. It's also the home of the Duluth Curling Club, the second largest club of it's type in the United States.
A Convention center was added in the mid 1990s for social, business and entertainment events.
AMSOIL Arena, the newest addition, began construction in September of 2008, and multi-purpose arena opened on December 30, 2010, used for the UMD men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, the arena seats 6600 for ice hockey, and 8500 for concerts.
