The USS Guam was the 8th member of the Iwo Jima Class of Amphibious Assualt Ships (Helicopter) and served the US Atlantic Fleet from 1965 to 1998 and was the last of her class in active service. She would see action in Grenada, Beirut, Lebanon, Liberia, Somalia and eventually the First Gulf War.
She decommissioned in 1998 and was placed in the James River Reserve Fleet where she sat until October 16th, 2001 when she was sunk at this location in 1,166 fathoms.
