Located on a 2nd century BC Gallo-Roman opidium, Brest Castle was completed by Vauban during the 17th century. Symbol of the power of the Lords of Leon until the middle of the 14th century, under English rule during 50 years, convoited by Britanny, France, and the English Crown, the fortress of the world's end was considered as the most powerful castle in the world in the Middle Ages. Nowadays the building is the headquarters of the French Atlantic Naval Forces. A part of the castle has also been turned into a Navy Museum.
