  • I was there from 1981-1983. Alcohol & drugs aplenty. A horrible place to be stationed. Yuck. Glad to hear it's closed, abandoned, decaying and overgrown with weeds. It's a fate that Kriegsfeld Army Depot richly deserves.
  • I was there from 1983-86. Belonged to the 558th MP Co. Was actually a great time in my life. Lived on the German Economy..dollar was over 3 to 1. the job was a bit crappy but the experience priceless!
  • Joseph Pate. Was transfer from 9th Ord in Miesau to 619 Ord in 1965. Left in 1966. Was a cook. Was one of only two post that still received overseas pay. The other post was a place called Fishstein. Nothing but sad place to be station.
  • I was there from 1983 to 1986 with the 619th Ordnance Company. Lived in Weierhof housing. Enjoyed my tour. Fog guard and ED drills sucked at times but were necessary. So many good people.

  • David I was there from 83-84. I was the XO's secretary and postal clerk. Major Lewis was the company commander then and right before I left another one took over. I used to love to go to our little club and bowling alley, and the little nightclub over in the next town. I think the owners name was Eddie. I won a bingo jackpot at the place we used to go on sick call at. It was right before Christmas. I used the money to fly home. I enjoyed Germany.
  • Rick do you remember a cook named Alapaz? I used to live in the 619 Ord barracks too. I was the postal clerk and worked in Major Lewis office. I bought a gold VW bug and then bought a green mercedes and had it shipped home before I left.

  • Hello everyone, My name is John Belmarce and I was stationed at North Point from 1979-1982. I shared many good times while stationed there as a MP K-9 handler. If anyone can tell me what the name of the Guesthouse was in near by Gersbach I would appreciate it. The owners were Klaus and Trudy. We all had good meals and times at this place. Happy Holidays SSG (retired) John Belmarce (Wimpy)
  • Hi joe from Matt Yanez

  • My name is roger Giffen. Iwas at North Point from Nov 1975 until October 1976. Best by test. No Slack.
  • My dad was stationed there 77 to 81. I was about 10 yrs old at the time and my dad would let me visit on occasion. Of course he never told me about the nukes that may or may not have been stored there at any given time!
  • Bud Cantrell '75 to '76. Rotated out to Ktown, Baumholder, Mainz for "whitehat" duty. Worked with dog handler Terry (Jess) Sager (deceased) and Kevin Brooks (deceased), Dave Raber, and more whose names escape me after so many years. You jogged my memory: I recall the motto as: Best by test, Randall O. Simmons AKA, secret squirrel!! LOL
  • Hello Group members, My name is John W. Belmarce and I was stationed at North Point from Sept.1979-Oct.1982. I was a Dog Handler and my dog was named Alex. Alex began military service in the US Army in 1969 stationed in Viet Nam. I was assigned to him in Oct. 1979 and he was over 10 years old. He was one of the oldest Sentry dogs still serving proudly at that time. Sadly, Friday had to be put down in the summer of 1981 after having lost mobility in his rear legs. I was his last handler and I will never forget my Friend and Guardian of the Night. I will forever hold a place in my heart for my MP partner. I find my self sometimes reflecting back to the good old days while stationed at North Point. I was just 18 years old and found myself far away from home in this new place with many new responsibilities. I really learned to grow up fast. While in Germany I felt my first broken heart, drank my first beer, had my first hangover and lost a good friend (Friday). I am now happily married to a wonderful women (Misheal) and we live with our dog "Brandy". Now at 55 I am semi-retired and will be relocating from Massachusetts to North Carolina in August. I served 21 years and was stationed in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm. I retired in April 2005 and now hold all the memories l spent in the military as honorable ones. Wish all group members a nice summer 2016. God Bless Respectfully John W. Belmarce.

  • Paul. Good to hear from you,how you doing?
  • I was a MP in the 558th at North Point during the years of 1969, 1970 and 1971. I was deployed to Germany after graduating from Military Police AIT (Brems Barracks, B-10-4) Fort Gordon, Georgia. I was looking forward to working MP "white hat" duty in a German town. I will never forget my first sight of the A Gate at North Point and the thought of what duty assignment do military police perform at this place. The old wood towers with the plastic windows which the freezing wind would blow right through in the winter. The little floor heaters which put out no heat even when they worked. The snow falling in front of the fence line lights at night looked like a white sheet. The tower duty in the summer was not as bad because you were not freezing. Horrible MP duty watching the cleared zone tree line but it could have been worse. The Russian Army stayed in East Germany and never moved across the Berlin Wall. Hello to Lisa and Bud Cantrell on this site who my wife and I have met with and our meeting was a great experience. W.W. Bullard

  • Gene Williams I was there 1979 to 1981 in como shop with ssgt shoemaker, sgt ford , sgt lopez and many others.
  • I have met with Bob Ellis who was in the 558th MP Company at North Point with me from 1969 to 1971. Bob and I had not seen each other since a cold late January morning in 1971 when he rotated back to Fort Dix. Our physical appearance was a little different after over 45 years but we recognized each other with no problem. All the memories of working the towers, ECP B Gate, jeep patrol making bunker checks, SAT and BAF on the hill came back like it was yesterday. I was able to locate Bob through the North Point website where he is a site member. I hope other North Point veterans will have a chance to meet with a person they served with as it is a great experience.
  • Thomas Jones/55G20 Hello W.W. Bullard - You and I were stationed at North Point at the same time the only difference is I was a 55Golf Nuclear Weapons Specialist. I know that it was very hard on all of you MP's doing the duty of guarding this Nuclear Weapons Site. I did get a blink of an eye of what your duty was like as we did relive you MP's for just one day. You may not have known it at the time what you were guarding but like you I didn't know what I was getting into either. Again I want to say thank you for what you and all the other MP did, we might have come face to face at the time you and I were there and just didn't know one and other. I can tell you this you had your hard time and we 55Golfs had ours also. Again Thank You.
  • Hello Thomas, it is great to hear from a North Point veteran who was there with me even though we did not know each other at the time. The 619th guys who worked the hill had a tough job also. I was never briefed on what I was protecting in those bunkers and on the ground and air missions we went on to other areas in West Germany. I'm sure we walked by each other somewhere at the Point, maybe in the mess hall or up on the hill. All of us in the 619th and 558th had to endure those freezing winters on the hill. I still to this day remember the snow falling on my tower catwalk during the night. There was no heat in those old wood towers and there was a real danger of frost bite. I liked working the A Gate as there was a good working heater in the gate shack building. Thank you for your service Thomas.
  • I remember you like it was yesterday. Wasn't Horton in Tech Supply, too. Kelvin Howard was my roommate. I was the one that gave out all the nicknames like Spud, Stretch, etc. I knew Hazlett, Bolton, Pennell, Nagy, Nelson...
  • At the time N.P. Was a pain. But now it is such great memories.
  • My name is Shelton Riggins. I was a tower rat at Northpoint from December 1977 to March 1979; rotated to white hat duty in Fulda, Germany. The Supply Sergeant during this era called me Sunday night; Horace Anthony. We had a good chat. I am trying to get in touch with Darien Collins; he served at Northpoint. It was a tough experience; one I will never forget. It is funny how time flies. I am 63 years young now.
  • Hi fellow tower rat. My name is Gary Wade. I was with the 558th MP Co from July 1987 to May 1990, then back to the states at Ft. McClellan. Never got a chance to return to Germany, but hope to someday. I still keep in touch with some of the people I served with, thanks to facebook. Northpoint sure was a different animal, but wouldn't trade the memories for anything.
  • i'm Nelson first name there in 1972-73 (MP) i painted the tower painting on the break room door 1973
  • were you there in 72-73? my first name is Nelson
  • Is your name Nelson Flettrie, I was at the point 72-73 3rd platoon
  • I was there from 87-90 also..... Those were the days....
  • I was there from 65 to 68 619 storageplatoon first name dale
  • Yeah I was there from Jan 82 to July 83 in 3rd platoon. My nickname was Flounder. That place was a real trip, but glad those days are long over. I remember Don Thompson, Joe Hillen, Kevin Surrette and a few others. I stayed in until 88 and Northpoint was the worst of them(!). Jägerschnitzel at Trudi's in Gerbach...anyone remember that? Europe was pretty cool to explore, though. skippydoo603@gmail.com Previous is an easily throw-away email, btw. Would love to hear from some of you aging tower rats. Flounder
  • "Flounder", I was a MP at North Point in the 558th 1969-1971 so I qualify as a "aging tower rat". We worked in those old early 1960's wood towers that were around twenty feet tall with some type of clear hard plastic windows that a AK-47 would have riddled to pieces along with the MP in the tower. We had very small electric floor heaters inside the tower which put out very little heat when the heaters worked which was not often. The freezing wind would blow right through the tower wood siding so the only thing kept out was the snow. Working those back towers at night looking out beyond the cleared zone at the woods was spooky. I remember the "SOOOEEE" call from the MP in the next tower to let me know the SOG was on the way on his tower check. I did the tower check walk myself one night when I was working COR. There was a heavy snow fall that night and the SOG did not want to go back out into the snow for another tower check walk. It was around 0300 when the SOG told me to make the tower check while he stayed in the gate shack building. We had a great bunch of guys in the 558th with a strange sense of humor. I was dropped into the front lean and rest position in the snow by some of my buddies up in the towers. Ich liebe das Jagerschnitzel und Pommes Frittes. Das ist gutes essen, wunderbar.
  • My dad Perry Childress was there in 1969-72 or so. I’m enjoying researching the history of kriegsfeld, wish I could find info on the town where we lived but it is apparently so small there isn’t much out there.
  • Amanda was your dad in the 619th Ordnance Company or was he a MP in the 558th Military Police Company ? I was at North Point during the time your dad was stationed there. There was a small town named Gerbach and Kirchheimbolanden was also nearby. I recall another town named Rockenhausen was not far from North Point. We used to ride down to Kirchheim a lot as that town was nearby. From your entry it sounds like you did not live in the town of Kriegsfeld. Maybe you lived in one of the small towns I mentioned above.
  • I was there from late 76 to 78. SPC Norris 558th, I had one set of keys to the bunkers. Fun times
  • I think I was in same room with you 67 w/ fayta eddington doak paradise and a guy from new Hampshire named Lafayette first nickname Harley mf.
  • 94B20 with 558MP's. There from March to Aug 74. The Depot commanders was a real Ahole Major Ordnance type. This place had nothing. It was in a beautiful region but had NOTHING in the way of support and service for either the 619th or 558. I don't recall the 23rd. The dope and and booze was expected and the only relief. If u didn't do dope u were in danger real physical danger from those who did. They could barely man the towers or conduct maint in the bunkers as half thes bozos was either high or drunk. If you didn't do those u went AWOL to lose your clearance and get the hell out of there. I went AWOL.. Anybody who said they enjoyed NP is lying or delusional.
  • You and me both at the same time. 3rd plt.
