Newly restored and working! Visiting this lighthouse can be quite difficult. The Island is protected as the Anclote Key Preserve State Park and is open to the public during the daylight hours. It is located about three miles off shore, and at the time of this writing, there are no public tours that go out to the island. Visitors must take their own boat or rent one in Tarpon Springs. To reach Tarpon Springs, take Alt. Route 19. There are a few places along the river where boats can be rented, or if you are lucky, one of the locals may take you to visit the island.

  • Be very careful when tromping to the lighthouse. The island has lots of bees and rattlesnakes, and one has to go through a lot of overgrown areas to get there if you go from any direction other than the south. If you go from the south, you'll have to ford a stagnant brackish lake. Definitely take some long pants and boots, and perhaps a good sharp walking stick. Also: in the summer months it can be extremely hot, so take water.
