Here in 1787 was opened one of the first Theatres in this part of Europe, making in the oldest in Transylvania and on the present territory of Romania..
It burned twice,in 1826 (reopened 1827) and 1949.
The State Philharmonic of Sibiu presents weekly classical music concerts, and educational concerts for children and teenagers. The concerts take place in the newly restored Thalia Hall, a concert and theatre hall dating from 1787-1788, situated along the old city fortifications. Weekly organ concerts are organised at the Evangelical Cathedral.
