Palladium Nightclub

USA / New Jersey / West New York /
night club, historical layer / disappeared object

Designed c. 1926 by Thomas W. Lamb as New Academy of Music, a 3,600-seat cinema built for William Fox. After operating as a movie theater until the 70's, the site was converted into a nightclub by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, after their short-lived success with Studio 54. While keeping some of the historic details intact, the interior was renovated by Arata Isozaki. A massive 32ft mural was painted by Keith Haring in 1985 above the main dance floor; another by Jean-Michel Basquiat adorned the bar area.

It operated until 1997 until being demolished for an NYU dormitory bearing the same name.
