Haripad Sree Subrahamaniya Major Temple (Haripad)

India / Kerala / Mavelikara / Haripad / EAST GATE

Situated at 51 km. on the Quilon-Allappey Road, this is the oldest and most important of all Subrahmanya temples in Kerala. The image of the deity with four arms is also the biggest of the kind. It is believed to have been originally worshipped by Parasurama. A virtuous man had a dream that there was a wonderful image lying on a river-bed. This was confirmed by astrologers and thanks to the enthusiasm of the local people, the image was brought out from the river and enshrined in the present temple.
