846 Cahuenga.

The studio now known as RED Studios was the backlot for Metro Studios during the teens and 20s, until Metro merged with Goldwyn to form MGM. At that time the lot was abandoned and dismantled, except this one area, which was rebuilt into a stand alone rental studio (Motion Picture Center Studios).

From the mid 50s to the mid 60s, it was owned by Lucy and Desi and was known as Desilu (when they owned 3 lots and were among the largest of studios in greater Hollywood).

History:

1919: Was Back lot #3 of Metro Studios
1946: Construction of sound stages for what was Equity Productions
1947: Renamed Motion Pictures Center Studios
1953: Desilu Productions signs a 10-year lease and in 1959 the lot became known as Desilu Cahuenga (to distinguish it from the other Desilu studios). Massive reconstruction turned it into a state of the art television production plant.
1960: Paramount subleases the plant for it's overflow television production.
1967: Sold to Paramount's parent, Gulf and Western
1969 or 1971: Purchased and operated as Cinema General Studios.
1974: Television Center Studios.
1984: Purchased and renamed Ren-Mar Studios continuing a tradition of quality sound stages for rent in the heart of Hollywood.
2010: Purchased and renamed RED Studios-Hollywood, a division of RED Digital Cameras, a premier film camera manufacturer (owned by Oakley founder Jim Jannard).
