This outline represents the original footprint of the Paramount-Famois-Lasky after the name change from Famous Players-Lasky. Eventually the name became Paramount Pictures. Adolf Zukor and Jesse Lasky, the owners, bought the old Brunton Studios. As well, they bought the vacant lots on both the east and west sides of their new acquisition.
At the same time they either sold or leased out the part of the lot on the southern edge. The old border was Melrose Ave., but the new border was Marathon Ave. This southern edge housed restaurants as well as support businesses to the film industry (one of these was Western Costume, the world's largest costume rental company).
In the 1960s Paramount bought out their western neighbor, Desilu Studios (formerly RKO) and expanded their holdings. In the 1990s they reacquired that southern edge and expanded the studio outward again. Additionally, they have purchased additional land surrounding the studio, mostly for parking. Presumably they will continue to acquire property as it becomes available.
Paramount today is the largest studio in Hollywood proper and is still one of the largest in the world.
