The Evangelical Community from Sibiu built between 1881-1883 an orphanage and "St. Apostle John" Church(German: Johanniskirche ) . The church was built in Gothic style, and the Evangelical orphanage (German: Lutherhaus) was placed near the north side of the church.
Watchmaker A. Hartmann gave a clock to the church. The two buildings were inaugurated on 10 November 1883.
The Evangelical Church was in 1909 in poor condition , some cracks were observed in the walls. Evangelical community has tried to repair this building , asking the architect Hans Eder asked to prepare an estimate of expenses. The analyzes noted that there is a danger of collapse , which is why it was decided to evacuate the church until the end of January 1910. The organ was moved to the church cemetery . Evangelical Church Presbytery ruled in April 1910 that the church be demolished entirely , and on the place ( to the south) to build a new church. In June 1910, the Evangelical Church "St. John" was entirely demolished .
