church, 1840s construction, parish hall, French Renaissance (architecture)

4.5-story French Renaissance parish house completed in 1844 as a school for the church. In 1888-89 it was remodeled by McKim, Mead & White to its current form. Clad in stone and tan "buff" brick, it has a steep roof with a pair of peaked and hooded dormers. The lower floors on the left side of the front wall project out from the rest of the facade, with narrow vertical slit windows on the 1st and 2nd floors. To the right, the entrance is under a large round-arch, with a short stoop extending out to the sidewalk.
