Second World War 1939-1945, abandoned / shut down, control tower, historic ruins
Built in 1939 to a typical Japanese military style for air operations buildings, this facility survived the American air and sea bombardment preceding their June 1944 invasion and was subsequently used by American forces for the same purpose as its previous tenants.
Consisting of offices, operations control rooms and a generator room, the building was augmented with the installation of a control tower on its roof to oversee airfield operations. Today, only the original building remains standing.
