UNCMAC Conference Building (Kaesong)

Korea (North) / Hwanghaebukto / Kaesong

Meetings between North Korean and United Nations Command military generals take place here. It is also the only building on conference row that is open to public tours.

Permanent fixtures in the MAC building include a line of microphones on the centre table, which are continuously monitored and record 24 hours a day, and also represent the DPRK/ROK border within the building. There are also translator booths in the building, one each at both ends of the building, but they are no longer used.

Above the translator booth in the south end of the room is a plexiglas-covered board with flags on it, which represent the nations that participate in the United Nations Command in Korea. Before 2001, there was a shelf where the board is now, and on that shelf were miniature silk flags of the same nations. It was removed after two KPA soldiers showed unique forms of disrespect to two of the flags.
