  • Kovvur is a small town in West Godavari district, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is situated adjacent to the west bank of the Godavari River. Very famous during Godavari Pushkar. Gopadala revu and temple are very sacred. Actually there are many temples of various Hindu Gods in the Gopadala revu(means the holy bank of the cow's feet).people from all over india(world) come here for the holy dip in the river during the pushkar, which comes once in every 12 years. There are three bridges across the Godavari River linking Kovvur with Rajahmundry. The oldest of these was built by Sir Arthur Cotton and is over a hundred years old. Subsequently, a rail cum road bridge was built and most recently, another bridge was built for the railways. 3 Godavari bridges, Fertiliser factory (Andhra Sugars), highway are things you remember in Kovvur. The prominence of this small town doesn't end with just Godavari Pushkarams and godavari bridges. Andhra Sugars company, which has a branch in Kovvur is one of the oldest companies in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It was set up a few days before India gained its independence in 1947 and has run smoothly without a single strike by employees. Kovvur has been recognized in recent assembly elections as the only constituency in West Godavari which won the seat for Telugu Desam Party. Surprisingly, in the 2000 assembly elections, it is the only constituency in West Godavari which lost the seat for Telugu Desam Party. It is not surprising that this constituency holds the uniqueness when it comes to assembly elections. One more notable thing about Kovvur is its high temperatures during mid summers which reached a height of 50 degree Celsius during the past 3 years The name KOVVUR actually has a British origin. Legend goes that the original name of the town is GOVURU which means the holy town of the cow (similar to the govupadala revu). In telugu GOVU means cow & VURU means a town. The Britishers who were ruling before the independence, were unable to pronounce the telugu name, therefore changed it to KOVVUR,(KOV resembling English word cow). Thus even after the independence, the name continued to be in use till date.

  • Kovvur is beautiful small town it’s famous for Godavari pushkaralu
  • For me it's unforgetable place bz In my life i felt MY FIRST LOVE here only it's happened 1 decade back , i can't forget those days , Now also when i am in sorrow or sad mood i refresh my mind with the memories of that time .......... Kovvuru is a beautiful place , it is famous for devotional as well as education also , many retired people settling here to enjoy their old age life with peace, and the Nature is also excellent , The river Godavari and it's surroundings are very beautiful We can enjoy a lot of time on the banks of the Godavari and it's surroundings , Devotionally it's a great place for every 12 years pushkaras will come 4 Godavari , at that time lacs of people go for holy dip in the Goshpada Kshetram ...and went to nearby Temples like Sundareswara Swami Temple , Sai baba Temple , Ayyappa Temple and Geetha Mandiram , Hanuman temple and The Famous Goudiya Mutt also... In Pathuru There is Old Venugopala swami temple , and Shivalayam r also famous and there is a big Hanuman Statue near pump house the height of the statue is approx...40ft..it's also looking beautiful bt there is no spacious place to stand and pray infront of the Hanuman Statue i think if the statue is located on the Banks of Godavari at Lanchila revu , or Gopadala revu it's became more famous bz we can't stand on the main road to observe the beauty of the statue it's a draw back .... On the river Godavari the old railway bridge named Havlock bridge served a lot to the public and now it's taking rest , and another 2 brdiges r there which increasing the beauty of the area.. and lot more 2 tell , 2 see and 2 enjoy abt this are....it's an endless story..
