The most imposing building on the Salt Market is the Old Stock Exchange. In the sixteenth century magnificent residence of councilor Adam Rehdiger. The Stock Exchange building was constructed between 1822-1825 and designed by Carl Ferdinand Langhans. It was modeled in the style of an Italian Renaissance city palace. The interiors were completely rebuilt in the late nineteenth century. It continued to function as such until the late 1860s, when the New Stock Exchange building was completed.
