cemetery, interesting place

Independence Cemetery is a large cemetery located north of the small town of Independence. There is a section on each side of the road. Besides being the resting place for many early settlers in the Independence area, the famed trapped and trader Zachariah Cicott is buried here. His original sandstone marker which had deteriorated has been replaced with a large boulder from the Wabash River. A Bronze plaque descirbes his services to early Warren County. His wife's marker is next to Zachariah's. This list was checked against a list made by the D.A.R. in 1932.
